Hear from a particle physics researcher and learn about summer opportunities for all majors.

Hirohisa “Hiro” Tanaka grew up on Long Island and earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University studying rare quark processes in the BaBar experiment. He began working on neutrino physics as a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University and participated in a neutrino experiment in Japan as a faculty member at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto before coming to SLAC and Stanford University to work on the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). Outside of research, Hiro enjoys cooking and eating food, going on walks and hikes in mountains and coasts, fishing, reading, and entertaining his cats.

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is a vibrant multiprogram laboratory, that explores how the universe works at the biggest, smallest and fastest scales and invents powerful tools used by scientists around the globe. With research spanning particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology, materials, chemistry, bio- and energy sciences and scientific computing, we help solve real-world problems and advance the interests of the nation.
