Hoppenthaler, a professor at East Carolina University, has written several poetry books like "Night Wing over Metropolitan Area," "Domestic Garden," and "Lives of Water," all published by Carnegie Mellon University Press. His work has been featured in publications like Ploughshares, New York Magazine, and Virginia Quarterly Review. He’s also been honored with the Brockman Campbell Award for the best book of poetry in North Carolina, and he was named a Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet by the North Carolina Poetry Society. Hoppenthaler currently serves on the Advisory Board for Backbone Press, which specializes in the publication and promotion of marginalized voices. Aside from his reading at Taste Full Beans, Hoppenthaler will visit a Lenoir-Rhyne creative writing classes and host a conversation there on poetry editing and contemporary form.
