Kristin Swenson, Ph.D., will speak about her book, "A Most Peculiar Book: The Inherent Strangeness of the Bible," to help readers of the Bible appreciate what makes it so very unusual, and how to make sense of its sometimes surprising and even disturbing material.

Born in Duluth, Minn., Swenson is an associate professor of religious studies at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also the author of "Bible Babel: Making Sense of the Most Talked About Book of All Time and Living through Pain: Psalms and the Search for Wholeness." She earned her Ph.D. in religious studies (the history and literature of ancient Israel) at Boston University.
