 ver the inaugural Huffman Speaker Series on Social Justice lecture at Leno
 ir-Rhyne. His presentation\, “These Truths\, These Threats: The Promise 
 and Peril of the Next American Era\,” is part of the university’s 2026
 –2027 Bears Engage series\, which commemorates the 250th anniversary of 
 the United States through conversations centered on freedom\, responsibili
 ty and civic engagement in a diverse democracy.\n\nEstablished through the
  generosity of the late Richard “Dick” Huffman and Dale Huffman\, the 
 Huffman Speaker Series on Social Justice brings nationally recognized voic
 es to campus to encourage thoughtful dialogue around social justice and ci
 vic life.\n\nA former national correspondent and opinion columnist for The
  New York Times\, Egan is the author of several bestselling books\, includ
 ing "The Worst Hard Time" and "A Fever in the Heartland." His work explore
 s themes of American history\, democracy\, inequality and civic responsibi
