An opportunity for the LR community and others to participate in a conversation about the ELCA’s draft social statement to guide how Lutherans should understand our relationship to civic life — including government — as individuals and as a church body. The Rev. Dr. Mindy Makant, Lenoir-Rhyne professor of religious studies, has been involved in writing the draft and will lead the public hearing according to ELCA guidelines. This session is part of the ELCA’s process of reviewing and eventually approving a social statement that will then govern church teaching and policies and support ministries for the denomination.
