Speaker Biography
The Rev. Dr. Brian Peterson teaches Greek, Paul's letters and preaching. In the Greek courses, he hopes that along with language skills, students also learn how to welcome God's Word, with all the challenge, ambiguity and discovery that endeavor involves.
In studying Paul's letters, Peterson hopes that students learn how the gospel of Jesus Christ formed and continues to form the church as a community of God's mission in the world. In his preaching class, he finds that the many strands of theological education come together to inform the task of proclaiming God's grace with honesty and clarity to a world that does not yet know how deeply God loves them all.
Peterson is also the coordinator of internships for Evangelical Lutheran Church in America students and enjoys journeying with students as they engage in this work of ministry and formation.
Before joining the seminary faculty in 1998, Peterson was pastor of ELCA congregations in Minnesota and Virginia. Peterson is interested in the conversations between theology and science, with cosmology as an area of particular focus. In addition, he enjoys astrophotography as a hobby.
